Two women appeared in court in Nipawin Wednesday after being arrested for being in possession of firearms, ammunition and a stolen vehicle. A man is still at large, according to a Saskatchewan RCMP news release.

The Nipawin detachment observed an SUV on September 6th whose license plate didn’t match the plate registered to the vehicle. The SUV was able to flee an attempted traffic stop by officers at that time.

However, two days later, the same vehicle was spotted by members of Nipawin RCMP while on patrol, parked outside a residence on 7th Avenue West in Nipawin. There were three occupants, who exited the SUV when the police vehicle approached them. The male and one of the females attempted to flee on foot. The man got away, but both women were arrested.

A subsequent search of the SUV turned up three firearms, ammunition and a mask – all of which were seized – while it was determined the SUV had been previously reported as stolen in Prince Albert. A photo of the seized items can be found with this story on-line.

As a result, 45-year-old Genevieve McKay of Carrot River and 37-year-old Stephanie Harris of Cumberland House face a long list of charges, which can be found below.

Nipawin RCMP continue to investigate, including working to identify and locate the male suspect. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Nipawin RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

Genevieve McKay and Stephanie Harris are each charged with:

one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
one count, unsafe storage of firearms.
three counts, unauthorized possession of a firearm.
three counts, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized.
one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle.

Genevieve McKay was additionally charged with:

two counts, fail to comply with release order condition.
one count, resist/obstruct peace officer.

Genevieve McKay was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Carrot River RCMP.
