A $20-bill sitting in Doug Putland’s pocket ended up turning into a $44-million lottery win.

Putland and his wife were on their way to a Saskatchewan Roughrider game when the winning ticket was purchased at the Rosthern Co-op on a pitstop for gas.

He had been a regular lottery ticket buyer for many years, but had gotten out of the habit.

He describes how he learned about winning that much money.

Putland says the number one priority is helping the people he loves the most.

Putland also plans to honor a cousin who recently passed away—-calling him his “best friend”. The plan is to fix up ball diamonds in his hometown and name them in his honour.

Other items on the wish list include a vacation with some friends and a big family trip to Hawaii.
