Three organizations have joined together to launch the “Blue Fridays” campaign during prostate cancer awareness month.
The three organizations are Prostate Cancer Support Saskatoon, the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan and Bit Service Company. The campaign encourages people to wear blue every Friday in support of prostate cancer awareness.
One in eight Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their life. In most cases men are over 50 when they’re diagnosed. Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates of prostate cancer in the country, with 840 men diagnosed yearly.
Nora Yeates, CEO for the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, says the campaign aims to get men starting the conversation and getting tested for prostate cancer.
“Early detection saves lives. Early detection allows for more treatment options and better outcomes. So, we really want men to be talking about this with their friends, there partners, there doctors, and too know the know the symptoms and get tested.”
Donations to the cause can be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan website. Proceeds from donations go towards funding equipment for prostate cancer and helping to support those with prostate cancer.
