The Saskatoon Police Service says a 56-year-old man is facing four counts of assaulting a police officer after they say multiple officers where nearly hit by a fleeing vehicle this morning.

At 2:55 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop on a truck in the area of Avenue R North and 23rd Street West and in a news release police say the driver continually provided a false name.

He was subsequently informed he was under arrest for personation, then he began to drive away, nearly striking police officers and continued to evade at a high rate of speed with disregard for public safety.

The air support unit monitored the truck and saw it collide with the front deck of a house in the 200 block of Whitney Avenue South at which time police say the driver began to flee on foot but was arrested shortly after.

The driver was wanted on two outstanding warrants, and the truck had been stolen. Other charges include resisting arrest, evading police, theft of a motor vehicle, fraudulently impersonating another person and mischief.
