The Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Melfort and Tisdale regions are currently under a rainfall warning from Environment Canada. Rain will continue throughout the day Monday, and totals are expected to settle in the 50 to 60 mm range. Locally, higher amounts up to 80 to 100 mm are possible in thunderstorms.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Kyle McCaulay says the largest amount of rainfall over the weekend was recorded in Estevan at 46.8 millimetres, followed by Regina at 41, Indian Head at 32 mm, and Broadview at 30.

Over the weekend, there were two confirmed tornado touchdowns in southeast Saskatchewan- one in Kelso and the other in Maryfield.

“So far, those ones, no reports of damage. There was some damage to a barn in Manitoba very close to the border as the storms moved off into the east.”

He says the rain and heavy wind will persist across central Saskatchewan for much of the day today, before the system moves into Manitoba.

An intense low-pressure system will produce severe westerly wind gusts across portions of southern Saskatchewan including Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina, Estevan and Weyburn.

“We have a wind warning. That’s going to be some pretty strong winds with this low-pressure system that brought they rain in.”

With gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, McCaulay advises the public to stay off the highways if possible.
