It’s official- Google Maps has changed Lake Ontario to Lake America.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week Thursday to change the name after tensions between the two countries worsened over trade.
Prime Minister Mark Carney responded to Trump’s order in a social media post the same day, saying Canadians know Lake Ontario will always be known by its original name, “then, now and always.”
The name, given to the lake over 400 years ago, is an Indigenous word, meaning the lake is big and beautiful.
