A new CT scanner is coming to St. Paul’s Hospital. The fundraising goal of 1.2 million dollars was met during last Thursday’s blitz for donations. The Province will pay for the other half of the 2.4 million dollar price tag. Hospital Foundation C-E-O Bruce Acton says the new machine is state of the art, providing brighter and more defined images in less time. It will also be more patient friendly requiring less dye to do the job. Acton also says the old scanner broke down periodically as the department is open 24 hours a day. There are over 10-thousand CT scans yearly at St. Paul’s. They help with cancer treatment, assess surgery results, and also identify as well as diagnose internal injuries, diseases and abnormalities.
