Canadian teachers are noticing some troubling patterns in the classroom.

According to a recent Fraser Institute Study, four out of 10 Canadian teachers of grades 6 through 12 polled believe at least half of their students are using AI to complete homework.

Of those polled, 55.9 per cent of teachers believe students use AI to do the work for them, not to learn.

What’s more, 72.9 per cent of polled teachers report a decline in students’ in-class writing and analytical skills over the past five years, and over 80 per cent of them say critical thinking skills have worsened in the same period.

The Institute adds that it would be doing students and teachers a disservice to not listen to educators’ concerns regarding AI.
