The issue of antisemitism on university campuses is being brought to light across Canada after a report showed how common the issue was, and how little action is taken to deal with the issue.

The report pulled responses from 900 post-secondary Jewish students. In the report, 95 per cent reported seeing or experiencing at least one form of antisemitism, and 90 per cent reported seeing or experiencing antisemitism often during the school year.

Multiple groups and people, including members of Network of Engaged Canadian Academics, former university staff, and university students, gathered to send out a call for action after the report was released.

Alexa Barett-Taller is a graduate of Carleton University. Barett-Taller said that during university she felt she had to hide her Jewish identity because of the antisemitism.

“When I started university I thought my biggest challenges would be exams and deadlines, I never imagined that one of the hardest parts would be navigating what it meant to be openly Jewish on campus.”

Antisemitism isn’t just seen on campus in Saskatoon. The Agudas Israel Synagogue was vandalized on the long weekend while members were gathered inside for their service.  A photo of the suspect was released by Saskatoon Police Service on Wednesday.
