It’s my Parting Shot for a couple of Rider Tuesday Tidbits…..
If you recall me saying this three weeks ago – thank you first of all for being a faithful listener and/or reader of my daily, Monday to Friday, takes on the world of sports – I took issue with a T-S-N question that asked who the best team in the C-F-L West was a third of the way through the 2026 season. I did so because not everyone had played six out of 18 games as of yet – the Saskatchewan Roughriders included – and I wanted to wait until the Green and White had completed a home-and-home series with Edmonton before answering the question. In fact, I said back on July 14, quote, In other words, I’ll answer this on August 4!! Well, it’s August 4 and the Riders and Elks split the home-and-home – each team winning on the road. I think Saskatchewan could’ve won both games and been on top of the West, but Edmonton is 6-2 while the Roughriders are 5-2. With all that said, the best team in the West right now, in my humble opinion, is – the 4-4 Calgary Stampeders! The caveat is that there is still lots of season to go!!
So, the whining and moaning faction of Rider Nation has a new whipping position to get after following Green and White games! It used to be the quarterback, but there hasn’t been much to complain about when it comes to the play of future Canadian Football Hall-of-Famer Trevor Harris in his time in Saskatchewan. Now, the bitching is aimed at the place kicker! Last year, it was targeted at veteran Brett Lauther. He’s no longer in Saskatchewan, but that has nothing to do with the whining and moaning of the Roughriders’ malcontent fans – trust me! This year, the target is Alex Hale – with good reason! He missed his lone field goal attempt Saturday night in Edmonton, from a very makeable 42 yards, and is just 12 of 17 – or 70 per cent – on three-point attempts this season. He’s also missed two of 24 converts! That’s not good enough. I must say, I said it back when the Green and White’s beginning of the season roster deletions and moves were made that I was surprised that Hale was tabbed ahead of Jesse Mirco. Right about now, the whining and moaning faction of Rider Nation might, almost, want Lauther back!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
