In an update about the labour situation at Canada’s second largest air carrier, WestJet says at this time, negotiations have not resulted in an agreement and as a labour disruption approaches, WestJet must begin the process of parking 737 aircraft.

The airline says it is a necessary step so they can maintain operational control and protect the integrity of the broader network. WestJet says it also minimizes the risk of stranding guests and aircraft.

WestJet Encore flights operated on a Q400, as well as codeshare flights operated by airline partners, remain unaffected.

Anyone who has booked on WestJet and was slated to travel between now and Tuesday can make a one-time change or cancellation at no additional cost.

WestJet says it remains at the bargaining table working to hammer out a “mutually agreeable deal.”
