Residents, producers and visitors in the Rural Municipality of Fish Creek No. 402 are being urged to use extreme caution after a bear reportedly attacked and killed several calves in the RM.

According to a public warning issued by the RM of Fish Creek, the incidents occurred in the southeast corner of the municipality, prompting officials to alert anyone working, travelling or involved in recreational activity in the area.

The RM is bordered on the west side by Wakaw and Cudworth with the community of Alvena in the southeast. The municipality suggests, if possible, avoid the affected area while the bear remains active.

Officials are also reminding the public to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings. Keep children and pets close. Avoid approaching or feeding bears. Secure garbage and other potential wildlife attractants.

Anyone who sees the bear or notices suspicious wildlife activity in the area is asked to report it to local authorities immediately.

Earlier this month two people were killed in a wildlife incident that involved a bear.  The Ministry of Community Safety confirmed a bear was involved in the incident near McTavish Lake. The bear involved was located and euthanized. La Ronge RCMP received a call on July 15 about the suspected wildlife-related incident.
