According to the 2025 Crime Severity Index report, Saskatchewan’s CSI is nearly double the national average.

The CSI assesses communities based on violent offences, non-violent offences, volume and severity of crimes.

Last year, Canadas CSI was 75.0, while Saskatchewan’s is 146.64. Sixty Saskatchewan RCMP detachment areas with a population over 1000 were included in the report. Of them, 11 are more than 10 times the Canadian CSI, and 25 are located in northern Saskatchewan. For example, Sandy Bay has a CSI of 1019.38, Cumberland House has a CSI is 990.38, and the CSI in Pelican Narrows is 1,558.50.

The RCMP says these realities need to be met with meaningful action, such as a continuation of rotational drive-in models which enable officers to live in the Saskatoon area and report for duty in their respective remote community, rotating between two teams every eight days.

Other methods of mitigation include hiring additional investigation analysts and deploying strategic and targeted enforcement.

Over the coming days, the Saskatchewan RCMP say they will be releasing further crime statistics regarding our calls for service, prolific offenders, warrants executed, breach of conditions, impaired driving, illicit drugs, and homicides, along with the actions we are taking to reduce crime, hold offenders accountable and enhance community safety.

Meanwhile, both Saskatoon and Regina have seen decreases in their respective CSI’s.

Regin’as CSI in 2025 decreased by 12 per cent from 2024. Regina now ranks 13th among 41 Census Metropolitan Areas. The City says these results represent some of the city’s lowest crime rankings in recent years.

“In 2016 our city was number one,” explains Chief Lorilee Davies. “To have made this much progress in just under a decade is something we should be proud of and shows our multi-faceted approach to enforcement, crime prevention and community partnerships is making a meaningful difference.”

Similarly, Saskatoon saw a seven-point reduction in its CSI, which now sits at 98.9.
