Melfort RCMP have arrested two people in relation to a shooting last Tuesday.
Last Tuesday at 12:20 a.m. police were called to 1st Avenue South in Melfort. They learned that an altercation occurred between a group of people during which a firearm was discharged and two men were injured. One of them had serious injuries and the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Last Wednesday the Melfort RCMP obtained and executed a search warrant at the same residence in Melfort.
Officers found and seized a loaded crossbow, ammunition, a firearm, 75 grams of cocaine, and drug trafficking paraphernalia during the search. A man and two women were arrested at the residence.
Another man arrived in a vehicle well Melfort RCMP were at the home. When officers approached the vehicle they saw firearms inside. The man was arrested and the firearms were seized.
The investigation led to the two men being charged. 23-year-old Gabriel Carballea from Melfort is charged with:
- one count, possession of a weapon obtained by crime
- two counts, possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle
- two counts, careless use of a firearm
- two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- two counts, unauthorized possession of a firearm
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
53-year-old Jesus Carballea from Melfort is charged with:
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm
- one count, unsafe storage of firearms
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
The two woman who were arrested were later released from police custody without charge.
Gabriel Carballea and Jesus Carballea are scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on August 31.
