The report is called “Sound of Support: Exploring the Music Community’s Caregiver Needs,” and was published by Women in Music Canada and Music Publishers.
Within the report more then 200 music professionals across Canada were surveyed, including artists, publishers, mangers, and administrators. Out of those music professionals, 78% weren’t aware of existing programs and resources in the sector for caregivers.
Robyn Stewart, Executive Director of Women in Music Canada, explains the report is a call to action to the industry.
“It’s a call to action for all areas of the industry to do better and to ask the questions of what do caregivers want and need to be able to show up fully.”
Initiatives such as Balancing Act’s Level UP! have already expanded into the music sector through a partnership with Women in Music Canada. Level UP! in particular partners with organizations and individuals to help pilot care-centred workplace policies. The initiative has already worked with more then 150 partners.
Better communication, peer networks, and industry coordination are amongst the most actionable steps that can be taken in the sector in order to combat the unawareness.
