The Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame gathered at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex Thursday afternoon to reveal the Class of 2026 consisting of five athletes, three builders, one team and one Sports Organization of the Year. Among the five athletes are Dean Bertoia from Athletics, Colin Coben from Golf, Terry Johnson from Wrestling, Kent Kowalski from Soccer, and Rob Scheller from Softball. In the builders category are Gabriel Brecht from bowling, Bob Haver from Rowing, and Gary Loy from Ringette.
The lone team being inducted are the 2003-2004 University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s volleyball team, who finished third in the Canada West conference but marched their way towards a conference championship and national title thanks to setter Nathan Johnson, middles Darren Dove and Brandon Needham, and hitters Adam Ens and Joel Ens, and Andrew Lockert.
And the 2026 Sports Organization of the Year is the Saskatoon 60+ Hockey League, which is now in its 34th season. The league started with 26 players in 1993 and has grown to more than 400 today. Ken Crump was president of the league for the last 13 years with the title now passed along to Hugh Kurz.
The Class of 2026 (pictured) will be inducted at the 39th annual induction ceremony and dinner at Prairieland Park on Saturday, November 7th at 5:30 p.m.
