One U.S. storm chaser described it as a “stroke show” as he witnessed lightning flashing through the sky on Saturday night in the Carlyle area, about two hour southeast of Regina.
Storm chasers were broadcasting weather conditions from southeast Saskatchewan to a worldwide audience watching on various tornado and weather-related YouTube channels.
Environment Canada meteorologist James Colangelo says the worst conditions were in the Carlyle and Lampan areas.
At 7:37pm, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the Redvers, Carlyle, Oxbow and Lampman areas. Estevan had the strongest reported wind gust of 111km/hr. There were also reports of substantial amounts of rain and some flooding at Carlyle.
Colangelo says similar weather conditions could develop again late Sunday afternoon and into the evening in southeast Saskatchewan and portions of southwest Manitoba. He strongly advises anyone travelling in these areas to monitor updated weather forecasts as well as potential weather watches or warnings.
