Over the last 2 years, over 30 students have been put in a work placement through the Oil and Gas courses offered by Sask DLC. The courses are only able to support 25 students to do work placements each year.
The work placements provide students with an introduction to safety, operations, environmental practices and career pathways.
The courses are developed and delivered with the support of Teine Energy, Whitecap Resources, Strathcona Resources and Cenovus Energy. Whitecap, Teine and Strathcona provide industry expertise, and support student safety training and work placements.
Half of the students course time is spent participating in hands-on work experience. The other half is spent doing online theory work. The courses centres around how oil and natural gases are found, produced, and used in everyday life.
The courses are based on the Ministry of Education’s existing Energy and Mines curriculum.
