The owner of the Prairie Lily has taken to Facebook to make a disappointing announcement, both for her, and anyone who hoped to board the boat in the next two weeks.

The post from Stephanie Simonot reads that the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency reduced water flow from Lake Diefenbaker over the weekend without notifying the public in advance. Because water flows were high just weeks ago, she says she was caught off guard by how quickly river conditions changed.

This news means The Prairie Lily must pause its cruises for the next week and suspend ticket sales for the following two weeks. All scheduled Prairie Lily cruises up to and including June 4 have been cancelled.

The post adds that management will personally contact all guests holding tickets for cruises through June 4 regarding options to book a later date, issue a gift certificate, or offer a refund. Guests with bookings between June 5 and June 18 will also be contacted directly should those cruises need to be cancelled.

The Saskatchewan NDP has responded to this alert, calling on the provincial government to do better when it comes to notifying the public of changes like this.  A release from the Opposition says “Leadership is not about reacting after the damage is done – it’s about ensuring the right systems, coordination, and communication are in place before problems arise. Scott Moe’s approach continues to leave people scrambling.”
