Earlier this week, Star Blanket Cree Nation welcomed fifteen bison onto its land.

According to a post on the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council Facebook page, the herd was brought into Treaty 4 from Carstairs, Alberta, and it includes 13 females and 2 males.

The initiative was part of the ‘Bringing Home the Buffalo Project’, which has been years in the making. Following the welcoming ceremony, which was well attended by community members, the White Calf Gym hosted dignitary speeches, fellowship, and supper as families, leaders, Elders, and guests honoured the significance of the historic day.
