A rainfall warning is still in effect for Meadow Lake and surrounding area with localized amounts of 30 to 40 millimetres of rain possible. To the north and east of that is a special weather statement due to snow which is expected to continue today. Accumulations of 2 to 5 centimetres are forecast. And a wind warning is still in effect in the very most southeast corner of the province.
Those winds yesterday were bad enough Saskatchewan RCMP issued a news release around suppertime saying that extreme winds were overturning semis and trailers in parts of southern Saskatchewan including Kalium Road near Belle Plaine, Highway 6 north of Regina and on the Trans Canada west of Webb. According to the Highway Hotline those incidents are no longer impacting traffic.
Some of the strongest wind gusts recorded, according to Environment Canada and Saskatchewan Fire weather stations include Radville at 115 km/h, Milestone, Coronach and Swift Current at 107, Regina saw gusts to 98 kilometres per hour while Kindersley recorded a peak wind gust of 93 kilometres per hour.
Thursday SaskPower crews were responding to numerous unplanned outages due largely to wind damage, damaged transmission structures and hazardous working conditions including a massive power outage in Regina. There are still power outages in southern Saskatchewan this morning including Whitmore Park in Regina, as well as Ceylon, Radville, Minton, Lake Alma, and Piapot First Nation. Due to safety reasons crews stopped working last night and will resume work today.
