A stolen vehicle, driving erratically as it made its way into Saskatoon Tuesday morning ended up in a collision with a van that caught fire and closed down northbound Idylwyld Drive for several hours.
According to a Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) news release, officers responded to the area of Idylwyld near 58th Street West at around 8:10 a.m. as a Dodge Durango was said to be driving erratically. SPS had been told by the Corman Park Police Service that the vehicle was coming into Saskatoon on Highway 11, with further updates saying the Durango crossed the median into oncoming traffic and hit a northbound Ford Transit van south of the highway 16 overpass on Idylwyld Drive. The van subsequently caught fire and the driver, an 82-year-old male, was transported to hospital with critical injuries. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Prince Albert. Three people were taken into custody with charges pending and will be provided when available. The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is handling the investigation. Idylwyld Drive northbound was closed from shortly after the time of accident until just before 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.
