Wednesday Sturgeon Lake First Nation hosted the grand opening of the Shirley Bighead birthing lodge
The First Nation says this marks a major step in restoring community-based, culturally grounded birthing services.
In a media advisory community leaders say “the lodge is designed to bring birth back to the community, allowing families to welcome new life close to home, supported by culture, ceremony, and care.”
Sturgeon Lake First Nation is a Treaty 6 Cree Nation located 30 kms northwest of Prince Albert.
