This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. Health Canada announced it was approving a generic version of Ozempic. Which is important both for the individual and for your health care plans because as Health Canada states generic drugs can cost between 45 and 90 per cent cheaper. I get completely the urge to take the drug for weight loss – which would rarely be covered by a health plan. Having come from a family where diabetes is rampant, I’m unendingly grateful I haven’t been diagnosed and hope never will. But I obviously would be fine with having to use a needle if it was to control blood sugar levels. However from all the people I know who have used Ozempic, I don’t think I would want to use it willingly. Severe nausea in some cases so bad it causes them to throw up and obviously big loss of appetite. Then there are the stories, be it internet hooey about stopping the drug and the consequences that arise in terms of weight gain. Always a personal choice but I salute those who make the choice and live with the consequences whether its weight loss or diabetes – because in both instances it’s about health.
GLP-1 drugs soon to be more affordable
