The emergency two-percent liquid strychnine registration is being expanded to cover more Saskatchewan rural municipalities.
The number has roughly doubled to 208 R.M’s mainly in southern and western areas of the province. Saskatchewan requested an extension of the areas following comment made by R.M’s not covered in the original announcement.
The strychnine applications will likely begin in late summer and will have to be done by a person that has completed a stewardship program.
Gophers can cause significant damage to crops and pasture land.
The emergency strychnine registration will remain in effect until late 2027.
