The SaskSPCA is reminding people that there is still time to register for their 2026 Gathering for Animal and Human Welfare.
Mikayla Basset, who is the Education Coordinator for the SaskSPCA says that safety will be the theme for this year’s gathering.
“We’re going to be talking about animal safety, human safety, community safety, and emergency response. So, this includes presentations on One Welfare, which is the link between the well-being of animals, humans, and the environment. As well as talks on things like emergency preparedness, crisis support, and much more.”
Basset adds that there are also limited registration spots available for the pre-gathering event, which will be held on April 23rd.
“We will be having an educational session on April 23rd called ‘Considering Animals in Emergency Response’. At that event, there will be presentations from the Saskatoon Fire Department, Saskatoon Search and Rescue, and Saskatoon Animal Control Agency that will discuss the measures taken to protect pets during emergencies, and things owners can do to be prepared.”
She says registration is available for anyone who wants to attend.
“Our attendees are animal welfare professionals, human service professionals, law enforcement. But we also welcome students and members of the public who are interested in animal and human welfare, so anyone can attend.”
The Gathering for Animal and Human Welfare will run from April 23rd to 25th at Dakota Dunes Resort. To register and learn more, head to SaskSPCA.ca/gathering.
