The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools operating budget for the 2018-19 school year is a balanced one, but it wasn’t easy.
Board Chair Diane Boyko says it’s hard to rebound from the $54-million cut from the province, even though $30-million was re-added in the last provincial budget.
Along with less funding coming in, there is increasing enrolment and the cost of utilities are rising.
The Board had a lot of shuffling to do.
Last year, the main board office experienced some cuts with coordinators and consultants having to consolidate, and some positions have moved back to the classroom, like teacher librarians.
The projected increase of students is 490 over 50 schools, which means adding 37 teaching positions and 19 Education Assistants.
