Armed Robbery Calls from Wednesday night
The Saskatoon Police Service is investigating a pair of armed robberies where bear spray was deployed.
Around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business in the 2400 block of Preston Avenue South near Market Mall.
Police say two people entered the business, they were armed with bear spray and demanded merchandise from the employee. A customer in the store intervened and the suspects fled empty-handed.
A half hour later, around 9:30 p.m. police were called to another business, and another armed robbery, this time in the 1400 block of Central Avenue.
Police say two people entered the business armed with bear spray and again confronted the employee while demanding merchandise and stole an undisclosed amount of product.
Police continue to investigate but believe both incidents may be related.
Man allegedly points gun at armoured car guard
The Saskatoon Police Service says one man was arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm at an armoured car employee.
Police were called to the parking lot of the strip mall in the 100 block of Hampton Circle at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday and officer located a suspect in a vehicle. The suspect followed police instructions to walk backwards to their location with their hands up. He was arrested without incident, and a search of the vehicle located an imitation firearm.
A 63-year-old Saskatoon man was charged with multiple firearms-related offences. The incident took place kitty-corner from the Ernest Lindner and St. Lorenzo Ruiz Schools.
Woman accused of spitting on security guard
The Saskatoon Police Service says officers responded to a report of theft and assault at the Midtown Plaza around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived a woman had been detained by mall security for theft. Police allege she spit in the face of a security guard and following a search of her person several items were located that police believed belong to a business in the mall.
As a result, the 43-year-old Saskatoon woman was charged with assault and theft under $5000.
