The 18th annual Montreal Lake Walleye Derby is coming up this weekend, bringing anglers together for one of the province’s biggest ice fishing events. Dean Henderson is on the phone to talk about it, highlighting how the derby continues to grow each year, now drawing close to 3,000 participants. With a simple registration process including a new QR code system, the event is designed to be easy to join whether it’s your first time or you’re a returning competitor.
He also explains you don’t need to be an expert to take part, as luck plays a major role in landing the biggest fish. Beyond the fishing itself, the derby offers a full day of entertainment with large hourly 50/50 draws and a lively atmosphere on the ice, making it just as enjoyable for spectators as it is for those competing.
