All four lanes of the University Bridge are open again following a fire under the bridge Sunday afternoon that damaged the sanitary sewer line. There is no structural damage to the bridge, but crew are cleaning up the frozen wastewater that spilled out of the damaged sanitary sewer line.
The south pedestrian walkway remains open on the University Bridge while the north bound walkway remains closed while repairs continue the cost of repairs is estimated between $50,000 and $100,000.
Last January in 2025 there was a far more significant fire under the bridge, and the City of Saskatoon invested $256,000 to install steel mesh barriers topped with razor wire on both sides of the bridge. At the same time, city personnel needs access to the area in order conduct inspections and execute necessary utility work.
