Electrical rate increases will be one of the subjects discussed during the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) annual convention, which begins Tuesday morning in Regina.
A 3.9 per cent increase last month and another 3.9 per cent due next February will make the budget making process for rural municipalities a little more challenging.
Cabinet ministers will hold closed door “dialogue sessions” with reeves, councilors and administrators from the 298 rural municipalities.
The political speeches will come on Wednesday with Premier Scott Moe in the morning and Opposition Leader Carla Beck in the afternoon. Both are expected to address the province’s finances with the budget being released next Wednesday, March 18th. Premier Moe and Finance Minister Jim Reiter have indicated there will be a deficit.
