It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Global turmoil reigns with 99 days left to first match, Reaction to killing of cartel king in Mexico, strikes on Iran wreak havoc on logistics. My reaction…the country behind what’s going on in Mexico and in Iran is one of the three host nations for the 2026 World Cup of Soccer. In fact, the United States will host the final. The logistics doesn’t look, especially since the irony is that F-I-F-A gave American president Donald Trump an award for peace when the draw was held for this event! Not so peaceful now. Mexico is one of the co-hosts, along with Canada. Iraq may have to play in the tournament instead of Iran. Security becomes a major issue in all three hosting countries and, especially, in the cities that will host matches because of all the world unrest! As much as I would love to cover, or at least be in attendance, for World Cup matches – you couldn’t get me to go anywhere near those stadiums now!!
Next headline…Huge demand and sky-high prices for World Cup tickets. Reaction…another reason not to attend for the average bloke. This is F-I-F-A’s chance to make money – off its biggest spectacle, no different than tickets to the Super Bowl or the Stanley Cup final. Real fans ae out of luck of attending!!
Last headline…A rite of passage that says I’m forever an Olympian. My reaction…to each their own, I guess. Getting a tattoo of the Olympic rings on your body to symbolize you were a competitor is definitely permanent. How much will it look like the Olympic rings later in your life when your body changes look? That would be my concern, hence you would never catch me getting inked up. Plus, there are a lot of other ways to show that you were a competitor at any major event, just from what is given to you by organizers! Again, to each their own!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
