The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to cut spending in response to Main Estimates showing an increase in federal spending again in 2026-27.
This year’s spending will increase to $505.8 billion, which is $17.7 billion more than last year’s Main Estimates. Debt interest charges are also increasing to $54 billion.
The Main Estimates project that the cost of the bureaucracy will increase again in 2026-27. The CTF says that this will cost taxpayers an additional $65.8 billion, which is up 5 per cent over the last year.
They say the cost of the bureaucracy has increased 80 per cent between 2015 and 2024, while the cost of consultants, contractors and outsourcing more than doubled in the same time period.
