This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. It is Telemiracle weekend in Saskatchewan and it is part of my childhood memories as well as our family traditions. We always sat and watched some pretty long stretches of Telemiracle when I was a kid – because let’s face it – initially we only had two channels and then eventually three. And I always wondered if the cut off on Sunday was at 5 p.m. because everyone would switch the channel to watch the weekly Wonderful World of Disney. Yes, for anyone younger than me out there – there was a time when you only got to watch a Disney movie once a week or in a movie theatre. And I remember we would phone and give our pledge, glued to the screen to see our name scrolled along the bottom. Now this is just my memory but anecdotally speaking I am sure back in the day the encouragement was that if everyone gave one dollar to represent every person in the province, then Telemiracle would make a million dollars. In 1983 when our population actually broke the one million mark, Telemiracle broke the $2million mark for the first time. Truly the little prairie province that could. I’d challenge anyone to tell me they don’t know someone who has been helped by the Kinsmen Club. The work they do and the work Telemiracle does is invaluable. So, where we going? That’s right – higher! Ring those phones Saskatchewan.
