This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I find the NDP’s stance on the reporting line set up by the Health Authority – interesting. There is a Facebook post by leader Carla Beck that says Stitches not Snitches. The NDP says it is bringing forward legislation in the upcoming spring sitting of the legislature to ban what the opposition party terms “Sask. Party health authority snitch lines.” The NDP contends that the government is going to target healthcare workers. I’m not a health care insider by any means. And when this first came to light in January the government’s website indicated a disclosure of wrongdoing form might be necessary and it requires a name. That’s not really awesome in the sense that I think it should have the option of being anonymous. By the same token, it might be hard to give credence to accusations when no one is willing to stake claim to it. However, the NDP’s stance is a wee bit ironic in light of the number leaked memos the NDP has presented that supports their messaging. But don’t get me wrong – pictures of weapons that have been confiscated, pictures of hallways or former waiting areas and the like, lined with patients on stretchers, yes, I think it is important for Saskatchewan residents to see up close and realistically exactly what health care workers are dealing with and exactly how much weight is currently bearing down on the system. And if you agree with the NDP’s stance on eliminating what they term as a snitch line, you can always sign a petition. They have one circulating.
