It’s my Parting Shot for a Tuesday Tidbit and a couple of answers to questions from the T-S-N website…..
The Tuesday Tidbit is a leftover thought I had from Super Bowl LX. By now you know that I’m not a fan of Sam Darnold for his awful choke job in last year’s N-F-L playoffs following a stellar regular-season as the quarterback for my Minnesota Vikings. I guess he learned his lessons well because he’s a Super Bowl champ and my Vikes missed the playoffs and have never won the N-F-L title! What I will say is a back-handed compliment to Darnold, he didn’t lose games for Seattle, he managed the Seahawks’ offence well enough to win 17 games total! In Sunday’s contest, Darnold only completed 50 per cent of his passes, but – and it’s an all-important, big but – he didn’t turn the ball over! In fact, the Seattle offence never gave the ball away in three post-season games. And, with that defence, Darnold managed the game well enough on offence for the Seahawks to prevail!
One question that is on the T-S-N website…How close is U-S-A to dethroning Canada? My answer…close, but then again so are Sweden, Finland, Czechia and Slovakia close to being able to knock off Canada and win the gold medal in men’s hockey at the Milan Winter Olympics! However, as we all know, close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades! Read my lips – Canada is going to win gold again in men’s best-on-best hockey because we have the best! The best talent, the best heart and the best pride in flag and country!!
A question that isn’t on the T-S-N website, at least I didn’t see it – but I think it was at some point – who should be Canada’s starting goaltender for the first game on Thursday against Czechia? There are three options. One is Saskatoon product and L-A Kings tendy Darcy Kuemper. Two is former Brandon Wheat Kings and Brock University goalie, now of the Washington Capitals, Logan Thompson. The third option is St. Louis Blues and Four Nations Challenge stand-out from last year Jordan Binnington. It says here that Binnington should start Thursday against the Czechs because of his past, big-game success on behalf of Hockey Canada. If he wins and does well, great! If he loses and looks porous like he has at times this season in the N-H-L with the Blues, the good news is, it’s only one game. The tournament isn’t done and Thompson or Kuemper will get their chance – no controversy as far as I’m concerned!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
