Mark McMorris suffering a head injury, Lindsey Vonn breaking her leg, Meryeta O’Dine with a fractured ankle…. Canada is out of curling mixed doubles after multiple straight losses for Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant….a tough start for the Canadian Olympic team. But I do love to watch the winter Olympics. Women’s hockey yesterday when a fight broke out and fantastic figure skating performances. Maddie Schizas has become an internet sensation after her very unfiltered reaction to the score she received which she felt was lower than it should have been. I think scowl might be an apt description. But she also grabbed a lot of attention after an email she sent to one of her profs asked for an extension on an assignment – you know – cause she’s competing in the Olympics. I love the ski jumping and the bobsled and the speed skating. And the emotion behind it – from all the highs from great performances – to the horrible disappointment when say an injury occurs. I mean these athletes spend years preparing themselves to compete at the most elite level. I think the Olympics is one of the rawest takes on real life. And Bad Bunny….if someone didn’t explain to me what all the symbolism and meaning was behind his performance, I’d truthfully not have a clue. I did catch the part where he was shouting out the names of Latin American countries and included Canada. That was cool. But I still don’t get the handle – Bad Bunny – I mean I know it’s a family nickname but perhaps that will evolve as he does as an artist. At the end of the day, I think everyone got the takeaway -that love triumphs hate.
