In the wake of a sexual assault conviction of a Canadian skiing coach convicted of 37 offences of sexual assault and exploitation, the federal government announced withholding funds to any sports organization that doesn’t report allegations of abuse and harassment and Sask Sport agrees with this decision.
Spokesperson Rob Kennedy says they have had a similar program in place for over 2 years and people have used it.
He believes it’s because society is more comfortable bringing forward concerns and there is a process in place to help anyone who has an issue.
Kennedy says the federal government will be approaching Sask Sport in the near future to discuss those policies and develop a national standard in abuse and harassment prevention. CKRM
