SaskPower’s rate hike went into effect on Sunday. That means, according to the Crown Corporation, that the average residential customer will see an increases of $5 per month, while the average farm customer will see an increase of $11 per month.
It was January 2nd that SaskPower issued an advisory saying that it was asking the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel for a rate increase of 3.9 per cent in both 2026 and 2027.
According to the application to the rate review panel SaskPower’s reasons for the increase include increased capital investments, operating, maintenance, fuel, and administration expenses.
The Saskatchewan NDP says this rate hike “will cost families, businesses and farms $136 million more annually. The cowardly Minister responsible for SaskPower, Jeremy Harrison, has provided no credible explanation for the massive increase, and Premier Scott Moe went so far as to lie in the Legislature in December, claiming rates weren’t being increased.”
