The report of public losses for Ministries and Treasury Board Crowns reveals there was internal fuel theft taking place at SaskEnergy with 13 people involved. The amount and value of fuel taken has yet to be determined.

The government says their employment was terminated by way of an indefinite suspension. The matter has been reported to police, and the company has also hired an independent investigator.

SaskEnergy’s internal audit department has been engaged and is conducting its review meanwhile, the company’s external auditor has also been informed. A comprehensive report detailing the loss is targeted for completion this month. SaskEnergy intends to recover the value of the fuel taken.

Meanwhile the government provided an update on some ongoing investigations at SaskPower.  Almost $7,200 dollars was rung up on a SaskPower corporate procurement card and fuel card for personal purchases by a SaskPower employee in October of 2024. So far just over $6,588 has been paid back after the employee signed a promissory note. The update was provided Monday in the Losses Reported by CIC and its Subsidiary Crown Corporations.

In another instance where an employee used a corporate procurement card for personal purchases to the tune of $3,184.83 – SaskPower has recovered that amount in full.

SaskPower says it has recovered the total amount owed at $803.51 in connection to an employee who took time off work but didn’t submit requests through the system which led to vacation or sick leave not being adjusted.

And an employee has been terminated after it was discovered a procurement card, for a total of $1,114.83 was used to purchase fuel for trips for which they also submitted mileage expense claims. The incident, which took place between February 2023 and June 2025, has been reported to police. SaskPower says it is attempting to recover the funds.
