After a full week of events, activities, and skill building, Saskatchewan Family Literacy Week is coming to a close. However, the Province encourages the connection and skill-building to continue.
This year’s theme was “Make Mealtime Family Learning Time,” which reminded families that everyday opportunities can be used to build literacy skills.
The Province says whether your family is preparing a recipe, writing a grocery list, or sharing about your day around the kitchen table, mealtime provides a great breeding ground for literacy.
The picture book selected to go along with this year’s theme is Salma the Syrian Chef, a tale of a newcomer who tries to cheer up her mother by cooking her a homemade dish.
In the 2025-26 budget, the province provided $1.1 million toward literacy initiatives to ensure children and families continue learning and sharing.
