Last Thursday around 2:45 p.m., Stanley Mission RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated man who was acting aggressively at a home in the community.
When officers go there, they were told the man had made his way into a crawl space and may have a gun. RCMP officers entered a room where the crawl space hatch was and located a male suspect in a corner of the room with a firearm. Police say the firearm was pointed at an officer but was dropped when given verbal commands to do so.
A Conducted Energy Weapon was used after the man resisted arrest and tried to escape police custody. He was assessed by medical personnel as a precaution and released back into police custody.
The firearm was determined to be a pellet rifle. Another pellet rifle and two swords were also located and seized in the crawl space. An assault-style BB gun, axe and large knife were seized from the main are of the home as well.
RCMP say multiple children and adults were inside the home at the time of the incident. None of them reported any physical injuries to police. No officers were injured either.
A 25-year-old man, from Stanley Mission, is facing a half dozen charges, mostly weapons related as well as – assault on and resist – a peace officer.
