This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I spent much of my Christmas time off trying to organize and purge. Which is obviously what the big box stores think we should be doing if the amount of storage bins available are any indication. I thought instead of new year’s resolutions I’m going to downsize clutter to enter the New Year on a clean slate. So much easier said than done. Despite numerous items being dispatched to various entities like the women’s overnight warming shelter, Station 20 West, Value Village, the garbage – I only ended up with one empty bin – which is now filled with Christmas decorations which for the life of me I can’t recall where I had put them in the past. I have failed so far, not to say I’m done, in achieving Marie Kondo’s decluttering philosophy that focuses on keeping items that “spark joy”. I have delved into closets, into storage areas, and while reorganized and a bit tidier, my final solution to the whole matter was simply to close the door and not look inside. I am back at work and that is a battle for another day.
