As of 8:30 Tuesday morning, crews have completed the sanitation of Outlook’s clear well following a potential break in.
On Monday morning at 9:30, a routine maintenance check led to the discovery of a broken lock and an open hatch at the treated water reservoir. A DO NOT USE order was immediately enacted, and a state of emergency was declared, as it is possible the water is contaminated by an unknown substance.
Now, town staff continue to drain the reservoirs of compromised water. They estimate that draining is still 8 hours from completion. After that, they will sanitize the reservoirs and start making treated water.
Residents are being offered 4 litre jugs of water at the Jim Kook Recplex starting at 10:00 am. There is a limit of one per household. If residents in the town and RM of Rudy got water Monday, they can still get water again Tuesday. Monday, Town staff handed out over 250, 4 litre bottles of water to residents Monday and delivered an additional 72 cases of water to vulnerable residents.
The next update will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The first phase of this process consists of 4 steps:
1 Remove all of the compromised water from the reservoirs (there is three days’ supply) and put that water into the lagoon for treatment processing
2 sanitize all reservoirs
3 make treated water, enough to flush the whole distribution system
4 flush the distribution system, with DO NOT USE still in effect
