Friday night at Merlis Belsher Place always shapes up to be an exciting evening of hockey, especially when it’s the U-Prairie Challenge between the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars. It was also the Toque & Mitt Toss with all 642 in attendance littering the ice after the Huskies opening goal in the first period, a Shelby Williamson deflection on the power play with a little over five minutes remaining. Saskatchewan would roll on to a 3-0 victory over Regina backed by Clara Juca’s second shutout of the season turning aside all 20 shots she faced. Regina had their chances both even-strength and on the power play with five opportunities. The Huskies had seven power play opportunities but only capitalized on their first chance. Kaysah Nurani scored her second goal of the season on a wrap-around in the middle frame while getting a lucky bounce off a Cougar defenseman in the crease. Kahlen Wisener sealed the deal with her fourth marker five minutes into the third period off a feed from Peppi Virtanen. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night for a 7 o’clock puck drop, this time in the Queen City at The Co-operators Centre for their final games before the Christmas break. Following is postgame audio from Huskies head coach Steve Kook and official game stats courtesy Canada West…..
