The Saskatoon Police Service says there has been a continued increase in theft and violence at retail stores in the city so for the month of December, Project Shield will take place on select dates throughout the month at retail locations across the city.
Previously Project Shield, a retail blitz to deter theft and violence, was concentrated on Confederation Drive.
The Saskatoon Police Service says with help from store Loss Prevention Officers and security personnel, the SPS will focus on identifying and arresting prolific and violent offenders for a variety of crimes, including theft, weapons possession, breach of conditions, and to execute outstanding warrants.
In a news release Inspector Doug McNeil with the Community Engagement Division said, “By strengthening enforcement and collaboration with our retail partners, Project Shield is a commitment to ensuring retail spaces remain welcoming and retail crime offenders are held accountable.”
