Members of the provincial government introduced two new acts in the legislature Tuesday. 

Trade and Export Minister Warren Kaeding introduced The Saskatchewan Internal Trade Promotion Act, which aims to reduce red tape and promote the mutual recognition of goods and services entering the province from other Canadian provinces and territories.  

Finance Minister Jim Reiter also introduced The Income Tax Amendment Act 2025, which will add several affordability measures to the current income tax act, such as introducing the Fertility Treatment Tax Credit and Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Tax Credit. 

NDP MLA Jordan McPhail, who represents Cumberland and is the critic for Northern Affairs, attempted to introduce an emergency motion of his own regarding a full public inquiry into the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency response to the serious wildfire situation earlier this year. 

The motion was blocked by the Saskatchewan Party, however, as determined on Monday, third party company MNP will examine the response in detail and file a report next year.

The NDP says this was unfortunate news for the wildfire evacuees that travelled hours to attend the sitting, many wondering “why they were forced to go without financial supports, why half of the government’s the water bomber fleet was grounded, and why federal supports were left on the table.”

Several Denare Beach residents even called for Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod to resign. “If they really did everything they could to help us in the North, why wouldn’t you want a public inquiry? Why wouldn’t you want to prove us wrong?” asked Rhonda Werbicki, who lost her home to the Wolfe fire.
