Conservation officers found 142 dead migratory birds dumped on private land near Patience Lake. Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officers posted on their social media that they had received a call through the Turn In Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) hotline.
The Association says all edible meat had been left to waste. They note that the waste of over 100 migratory birds constitutes a provincial and federal offence in addition to the violators not having permission to access the land where the birds were dumped. The Facebook post notes that hunters have a moral and legal obligation to harvest the meat from wildlife they hunt.
Saskatoon Conservation officers are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of the vehicle. A cash reward of up to $2000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the individuals involved. Anyone with information about this violation should contact the provincial TIPP line at 1-800-667-7561.
Patience Lake is located approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon.
