It’s my Parting Shot for a second straight day of T-F-P and Week 14 C-F-L picks…..
Since I was on holidays from mid-August until the Labour Day long weekend was complete – and because you trust me to be truthful with how I did – I can tell you that I had seven of 11 games predicted correctly in Weeks 11, 12 and 13. I was 3-1 in Week 11 – messing up Winnipeg beating Ottawa at home – I was shocked that Toronto bounced B-C in Week 12, my only miss out of four games, and I only correctly picked Calgary to defeat Edmonton this past weekend in Week 13! Yes, I thought Winnipeg would beat the Riders and I still am not convinced about Toronto, hence I had Hamilton winning and was wrong!!
On we go to the re-match weekend, plus tonight’s B-C at Ottawa lid-lifter. The 5-6 Lions occupy the third and final playoff spot in the East Division – in other words, it is a crossover situation as of right now. That means the 3-8 RedBlacks desperately need a win. They won’t get it as quarterback Dru Brown is still sidelined by injury, B-C by more than a field goal!
Saturday’s triple-header – thus avoiding the first Sunday of the new N-F-L regular season – starts with Hamilton at Montreal. These are the top two teams in the East, both with mediocre records and stumbling of late. The 6-5 Tiger-Cats are due for a win, coming off three straight losses, while the 5-6 Alouettes are still without franchise quarterback Davis Alexander, hence four straight setbacks. I’ve going with The Hammer by less than a field goal.
The last game Saturday is the Labour Day re-match as Calgary goes to Edmonton. After ending the Elks three-game winning streak at McMahon Stadium, the 8-3 Stampeders are on their own three-game run of success. In my mind, the Stamps are the best team in the C-F-L right now – sorry Rider Nation! We’ll see how 4-7 Edmonton responds, but I think Calgary prevails by less than a touchdown!
That leaves the Banjo Bowl in between on Saturday – in Winnipeg. This re-match usually isn’t a good one for the 9-2 Saskatchewan Roughriders. But, I have my doubts about the 6-5 Winnipeg Blue Bombers. I know the Green and White have a penchant for making things tough on themselves, but maybe this won’t be the case as I’m saying Riders by more than a field goal!
Overall for the season, I’m 28-22…easy math, that’s 56 per cent! Not great, hopefully it gets better!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk.
