The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating a homicide in Pelican Narrows. In a news release RCMP say members of the Pelican Narrows detachment responded around 8 a.m. Saturday to a report of person being seriously injured by firearm.
An 18-year-old was taken to the local health clinic by members of the public and pronounced deceased shortly after noon. An autopsy is taking place in Saskatoon today.
The leadership of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is continuing to call for RCMP vacancies to be filled as the community deals with the weekend shooting.
The PBCN says in a statement that it has introduced new safety measures, including technology and prevention programs but in addition to more officers, it would like more specialized policing resources in the community.
